About

My passion for India developed many years ago when backpacking was all the trend.  The vibrancy, colour and incredible inspiration of the people of India captured my heart.  I have been back many times since that first trip, and several years ago I spent five months working with an NGO (non-governmental organization) in a workshop that supports tribal adivasi (original people of India) women from the surrounding jungle about 2 hours north of Mumbai.

In that five months, I mentored and trained the women in sewing, design, embroidery and weaving.  I found the women inspirational, intelligent with a great colour sense and a willingness to learn.  I am in awe of their ability to weave, embroider and pick up many other skills that are offered to them.  After spending time amongst these people, I see the difference earning a living wage makes to their self-esteem, the improvement in their families’ health and the ability to educate their children.

By creating INDIGO REPUBLIC I can bring their wonderful work and stories to you, the customers, right into your homes.  Every piece that you see has been produced with great pride, love and commitment.  I hope you enjoy this work which gives you an insight into one small corner of these amazing artisans lives.
