About Sustainability and Ethical Practices

With our inhouse label Ayako we follow ethical and sustainable practices.  All fabrics used are natural based fabrics, eg. silk, linen, cotton, organic cotton and wool.  Dyes used are either natural dyes or oeko-tex certified.  We also, on some occasions use vintage and dead stock fabrics.  All cutting of garments and machining of garments is crafted in Melbourne by either myself or my machinist.  All pattern making is done by my daughter.  Fabrics used are sourced from handweavers in India via trusts or directly from the weavers.  Machine made fabrics come from Japan or China and flax is grown in Europe, milled in China.

Some garments are imported from India using handwoven fabrics and ethical sustainable practices.

Our accessories are purchased directly from the artisans and have been hand painted, hand stitched, hand woven using natural dyes and or oeko-tex certified dyes.

Quilts have been purchased through trusts and individual organisations where decent wages have been paid to the artisan makers.  Some of these makers use only natural dyes others use sustainably sourced fabrics from garment manufacturers thus avoiding landfill.

The jewellery we stock mostly comes from makers who use only recycled sterling silver, brass and copper.  Thus not depleting earth's natural resources.
