Handcrafted Bilum 1

Natural fibre bilums have been handwoven from 100% natural fibre sourced from the bark of a special tree from the surrounding jungle. The process of making a natural fibre bilum is painstaking and takes many weeks. The barks are beaten into loose strips and are dried in the sun. The dried strips are then twisted by placing the fibres on the weaver’s thigh and are rolled in a backward and forward motion with their hands to form long threads. The threads are then woven into bilums using a traditional weaving technique which is centuries old.

This bilum is an absolute stunner.
